Password Security

All Nodes on the network such as servers, clients, switches and routers need to be password protected to provide the first line of defense against intrusions. Passwords should not be easy to guess. No birthdays, names, sequential numbers or anything easily guessed. However passwords also need to be easy to remember, otherwise users will leave reminders in places easily found by an intruder. Do not leave your password on a sticky note on your monitor for instance. Perhaps use the first letters from an abbreviation of a sentence that is easy to remember. Statistically these passwords are as hard to guess as randomly generated ones.
